Loose (and bigoted) Women
I’ve been sat at home today, watching the horror that is daytime TV.
First I was treated to Judge Judy, then This Morning (with Nadine Baggot), and now ITV’s Loose Women.
The first topic up for discussion? Gay Parenting. I assumed all these friendly TV women must have lots of gay friends, and be in support of gay people being parents. Clearly I was mistaken.
Coleen Nolan started off with a vile rant about how she wasn’t totally happy with gay marriage, let alone parenting - how gay men are all drag queens thus not suitable parents. Then someone I really admired, Lynda Bellingham harped in and started agreeing with her! I am *NOT* impressed. People are going to watch these people and think that these are acceptable views.I know two gay couples who are now proud parents, these people are some of the best parents I’ve ever clapped eyes on. I’d want these people as my parents. They’re loving, informed, caring etc… yet according to these women they shouldn’t be allowed to be parents. Yet they’ve not said anything about the hoardes of chavs who have 6 babies they can’t afford to have, who they don’t look after or provide for. It makes me furious.
The guest host Jackie Brambles, and regular Jane McDonald however spoke up quite furiously in support of gay parents, saying it was only taboo because we haven’t crossed the ‘pain barrier’ yet, to the point where it’s every day - such as inter-racial couples. Also Lynda Bellingham doesn’t like The Simpsons. Boooooo! Miserable old fish wives.
Oooh, it’s a good thing I wasn’t at home to see that. I would probably have been exploding with rage. And then probably complained to ITV and anyone else I could think of.
Bah. And Lynda Bellingham ought to know better, seriously.
