I need some sleep…

It’s 3.42am. Three fourty-two am. I should have been asleep a long time ago.

I went to bed around 1.00am, and I just lay there, my eyes unclosing, my mind racing – full of things I don’t want to think about, stuff I don’t want to deal with, problems I don’t want to face.

Now I’m sat in the living room, lit only by the blueish glow of the TFT screen of my temporary computer, almost deafed by the usually seemingly silent fridge, and the waking birds outside.

The sky outside is slowly getting lighter, it’s almost a royal blue at the moment, a new day is waking up outside, and I’ve not even managed to sleep yet – I fear I won’t at all tonight/this morning. Another day of nothing.

“Hush, the babies are sleeping, the farmers, the fishers, the tradesmen and pensioners, cobbler, schoolteacher, postman and publican, the undertaker and the fancy woman, drunkard, dressmaker, preacher, policeman, the webfoot cocklewomen and the tidy wives…  Only your eyes are unclosed, to see the black and folded town fast, and slow, asleep” – Dylan Thomas
